Version 2026.01.16 by Erwin Lengauer.
I'd like to offer a few personalβalmost sentimental πβwords, delivered with a touch of dark and, of course, politically incorrect left-liberal secular (godless?) humor, on the occasion of his shockingly π 61st birthday. Specifically, this is prompted by some rather "shuddering" π histological pathology findings following his cancer surgery (radical prostatectomy) on January 2, 2026, at the Vienna General Hospital (AKH).
This text is not, however, an obituary.
This text is not, for now, an obituary. I still hope to manage a few "fucking" π good years, including a few thousand kilometers of driving my FIAT through the "bad" Eastern Europe plus the hedonistic, wine-filled Southern Europe π π
In any case, I was born into the Lengauer family (Rupert 1935- and Karoline 1935-2021) in what can only be described as a bygone era. Specifically, on January 16, 1965, in the beautiful mountain and lake landscape of Pinzgau in the state of Salzburg. Near the Hohe Tauern National Park, at the foot of the world-famous Grossglockner High Alpine Road. I grew up there very happily and sheltered, as a neighbor and altar boy at a (now closed) Franciscan monastery with my siblings Erhard (born 1954), Herbert (born 1956), and Monika (born 1967). In any case, I would like to take this opportunityβas someone who has fortunately always been very well-integrated socially and emotionally π throughout my lifeβto personally thank some women π and, of course, men (including my cheeky dachshund Frodo π) who have been especially important to me for many years.
Let's start, of course, with my family mentioned above and their partners. However, it gets even more emotional when I thank my long-time Korean partner, Yeong Min Eggendorfer, with whom I've been in a successful π relationship since 2008! Almost unbelievable, considering my somewhat π "polyamorous" past.
Special thanks also go to two other particularly important ladies. The long-standing, cheeky, versatile, inspiring, and currently especially motivating friendship of "Special" Justyna (along with her dachshund Frodo) and, of course, Tatyana Volskaya from St. Petersburg.
In the 1980s, Regina Zodl, and in the 1990s, Claudia Leitner, were two particularly important ladies. π
Furthermore, and not only from the male side, I would like to express my special thanks for the long-standing friendship to my former Pinzgau community service colleague and now long-time tennis partner, Martin Bauer, since 1984; Martin since the 1990s; and, of course, Dagmar Coome, Dr. Dr. π Martin Balluch, and especially the German soul π Oliver Busse!
From the perspective of my university "career" since the 1980s, π I would like to thank my intellectual mentors, the philosophers and ethicists Dr. I would like to thank Helmut F. Kaplan, Prof. Peter Kampits, and my closest academic companion, the philosopher and theorist of science Prof. Manfred Wuketits (1955-2018), who died far too young of cancer. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to US Prof. Gary Steiner β and of course to Prof. Peter Singer for his many years of inspiring intellectual friendship.
The numerous important women and men I have omitted here for the sake of clarity π will hopefully forgive me over a good glass of wine. But I must also mention the men and women from our long-standing vegetarian (wine) circle, like the dreamer π Christoph, Johann, Thomas, Berti, Lena, Lola, Barbara, Christoph, ... Furthermore, Robert Gschmeidler, Gerhard Cherny, Helga Anderl, Marion, Rina, Helena, Maria, Angie, Katrien, ...
On my mother's side, I would of course like to mention the Tschernitz family from Styria and on my father's side, the Schernthaner families from Pinzgau.
I hope to be remembered β at least somewhat β positively by all those mentioned and, unfortunately, those not mentioned ππ
