FEWD.at at University of Vienna: why do Europeans refuse the desired car trips around Russia?
The Research Center for Ethics and Science in Dialogue at the University of Vienna surveyed 1,000 Western tourists who want to relax in Russia. It turned out that fans of traveling on motorhomes refuse the desired trips to the Russian regions and are limited to the Baltic countries.
"Almost all European campers surveyed say that they do not have reliable information about how to travel in Russia, and therefore are forced to choose other car routes," said Erwin Lengauer, a senior researcher at the university.
According to him, almost every Western tourist wants to visit the "Golden Ring of Russia" and the road routes, which are positioned bythe All-Russian Association of Motor Tourism and Caravanning (OAAC), are located "close" to the European border and are convenient for those who are ready to visit Russia for the first time. The projects "Legends of Elbrus", "Protected Lands of the Russian North", "Sovereign Road" and "Chui Tract" will appeal to experienced vacationers and lovers of real adventures, the researcher noted.
According to Erwin Lenhauer, most European motorists complain that basic auto insurance does not cover the risks of traveling in Russia, and they have to pay more. The Baltic States, including Finland, provide information support for autotourism on their territory all year round with the help of printed materials and online services. In Russia, there is no such system.
"European road travelers call on the ANAAC to create a non-profit organization that accumulates the necessary information about Russia for Western autotourists," he said. "In Europe, there is ERCCP:a platform for campers and trailers Europe - Russia, and in Russia - UAAC. It will help to organize individual, collective tourist trips by car and motorhomes to Russia in the summer from May to September."
According to the scientist, information in Russian and foreign social networks, on websites and in the media is not enough to organize a safe and interesting journey by car in Russia. Most of it is simply unreliable.
"The center for the coordination of Western travelers interested in rest in Russia, similar to RCCWP (Russia Camper and Caravaning Welcome Point), should be created on the basis of the UAAC," the researcher believes. "It can be located in a city on the Russian-European border, for example, in Pskov."
According to the expert, it is necessary to more actively promote information about the domestic autotourism market and Russian car routes at camper events. First of all, at the world's largest fair Сaravan-salon. He suggested paying attention to the portals Abenteuerosten. info, Fiat www.fiatcamper. com, ERCCP (Europe-Russia camper and trailer platform) and the transnational project www. latrussbc. eu. "The budget of this project in the last period amounted to more than 27 million euros," the expert emphasized. "Fiatcamper also already offers almost all over Russia in major cities points of contact to solve technical problems."
Erwin Lengauer called useful the cooperation of the Russian Association of Motor Tourists and Caravanning and its 60 regional offices with the German organizer of camping tours www.abentuerosten.info.
"We want to support OAAK through ERCCP. We are ready to promote the information published on the association's website among all national camper communities and relevant media networks in Europe. It's time to set up the first official meeting place for campers and caravans in Russia."
Erwin Lengauer also noted the promising, from his point of view, Siberian Highway (TSHW), which became world-famous after the 25-day Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme cycling race in 2015 on the transcontinental route Moscow - Vladivostok. Its length was 9105 km, the height was 77,000 meters.
"For many years we have been working on the multidisciplinary project "Siberian Highway meets with the Trans-Siberian Railway - TSHW". This road runs through Europe and the United States," he said. "It's the most talked about and covered Russian road in Western media and literature. It has the potential to become a Eurasian version of the world-famous Trans-Canadian Highway."
